Driven by the desire to assist people with legal difficulties and convinced that law and justice enable individuals to improve their social and economic conditions, Geeta Narang, now a Superior Court judge, founded the Mile End Legal Clinic in 2002.
Following her call to the Bar in 2002, Geeta Narang decided to offer free legal consultations. After establishing a partnership with the Mile End Community Mission, she set up a table with chairs every Wednesday to offer her services and legal expertise.
The Mile End Legal Clinic became a non-profit organization.
The Mile End Legal Clinic was granted registered charity status. In that same year Geeta Narang received the Lawyer of the Year Award in the “Pro Bono/Social Involvement” category from the Young Bar Association of Montreal at the “Leaders of Tomorrow” gala.
Geeta Narang was awarded the Médaille Saint-Yves (now the Justice Pro Bono Award) by Pro Bono Québec. This award recognizes the exceptional contribution of a lawyer to pro bono legal services in Quebec.
Geeta Narang was awarded the Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of her leadership and pro bono legal work through the Mile End Legal Clinic. The organization hired its first full-time Executive Director.

Geeta Narang is appointed a judge of the Superior Court of Quebec.

The Mile End Legal Clinic is renamed The Legal Collective
We believe that every individual deserves equal treatment when it comes to the right to access the justice system. We believe that by reaching out to the vulnerable, we are helping to build a more equal and inclusive society while strengthening the bonds among our communities.
The Legal Collective needs its members in order to continue its mission. Through your donations, we help over 1,000 people each year. Our team of over 40 legal and social work volunteers offers a wide range of expertise in all areas of law.
